Have the ADF Chiefs lost the Plot?

The ROYAL AUSTRALIAN REGIMENT ASSOCIATION totally supports the comments made in yesterday’s joint statement by the Australian Special Air Services Association (ASASA) National Chairman Hon Martin Hamilton-Smith and Commando (CDO) Association National Vice President Steve Pilmore, with the support of the Returned and Services League of Australia (RSL) that insists any administrative action against veterans not continue until the facts have been established, in accordance with due process.

RARA President Michael von Berg says Based on conversations and actions since the release of the Brereton Report, the subsequent stripping of the citation, reinstated by the Minister, the removal off the Order of Battle (ORBAT) of 2 Sqn SAS, and now this latest fiasco, which is still based on allegations unproven and not yet tested, no criminal charges or conviction, is unprecedented”.

“This has been poorly handled right from the start, and we need to speak up and out in our advocacy to the Parliament and the Australian people for those affected and their families. This poorly managed process is disgraceful”.

RARA Tribal Elder retired Major General Hori Howard says, “I was brought up to respect the rule of law which is innocent until proven guilty, not guilty until proven innocent”.

He added, There is no doubt that there were some illegal acts committed and ultimately the commanders must take responsibility, but this is an absolute fiasco. Unless the Chiefs have been directed by Government to take this action, they have lost the plot”.
