Vale – Ray ‘Blue’ Parnell

We are sad to know that our comrade “Blue” passed away on 8th April 2020 aged 80 years.

He enlisted in the Army in 1957 and after his basic training at 1 RTB Kapooka went to 4 RAR Ingleburn for his Infantry Corps training before being posted to 1 RAR at Enoggera on 1 July 1958.

In 1959 he volunterred to go to Malaya as a reinforcement for 3 RAR who were on operational deployment fighting against the Communist Terrorists in the Malayan Emergency. He arrived in Kuala Kangsar on 21 March 1959 and joined C Company.

With 3 RAR he returned to Malaysia in 1964 and was involved in successful operations against the Indonesians on the Malaysian mainland during the Indonesian Confrontation.

His military service included postings with 1 RAR, 2 RAR, 3 RAR, 6 RAR and 8 RAR

Blue along with many 3 RAR men was an original supporter of the establishment of the RAR’s National Memorial Walk and maintained that support for many years.
