Tribute – Vale: 1202372 Kevin Michael Byrne – 6 RAR (Singapore), 4 RAR (Vietnam), 2/4 RAR (Australia)

Sadly, Kevin Michael BYRNE passed away after a short battle with cancer on Friday 22 Sep 23.

Kevin served as a Platoon commander with 6 RAR in Singapore, 4 RAR in Vietnam and as a Company Commander & Operations Officer with 2/4 RAR in Australia. He also served as Mayor of the Carins City Council 1992/95 & 2000/08.

George Mansford has written this tribute and poem of a true blue patriot and dearest friend.
“As a young man, Kevin Byrne was conscripted in the National Service Scheme, commissioned, then and served as an infantry officer. Transferred to the Regular Army, his military service included South Vietnam, 4RAR, where he was mentioned in dispatches for leadership during a fierce engagement with a large enemy force. Further military service included New Guinea, 3RAR, in challenging environments with the United Nations, and the Army Reserve in Cairns.

In civilian life he was quickly recognised in the political and business arena as a very capable and energetic individual. He was twice elected to the Cairns City Council and as the Mayor was well noted for his positive leadership, particularly in regards business and tourism.”

Kevin Byrne– An Outstanding Australian Leader in Peace and War

                 Proud Salutes to Dearest KB

And now, such smothering silence is in the air

So different to yesterday when the KB rich busy life was every where

And his laughter, purpose and firm confident strides were heard and seen

Now replaced by countless, proud footprints to clearly mark where he’s been

There was no final farewell bid tween KB and me

As is the way of old soldiers, it was never meant to be

Always duty first, love of country, sharing, caring, be you in mufti or jungle green

Dearest cobber, with your leader- ship, you certainly set the scene

Our ghostly column marching in endless time, will one day be complete

Forever tall, and always the rhythmic tramp of booted feet

Beloved comrades, all marching into swirling mists of eternity

Always will be ever-lasting salutes of pride and respect from such as you and me
